2013 Audi R8 e-tron with 8:09.099 Nürburgring lap time

The Audi R8 e-Tron has set a new lap record on the Nurburgring for a production vehicle with an electric drive system by posting a time of 8:09.099 minutes. The record setting run was achieved with racing driver Markus Wankelhock at the wheel on Jun 26th 2012 and further enhances the performance capabilities of Audi's electric halo car.

Audi has also taken the opportunity to announce the first official specifications of the production version.

It draws its inspiration from an electric powertrain that generates 230 kW (308 hp / 313 PS) and 820Nm of torque and enables the model to accelerate from 0-100kph (0-62mph) in 4.6 seconds. The rechargeable lithium-ion battery can store up to 49 KWh of energy which will allow for up to 215km (134miles) of uninterrupted driving.

When the model arrives on the road, top speed will be limited to 200 kph (124mph) but this was increased to 250 kph (155mph) for its record-setting lap around Green Hell. Markus Wankelhock also completed a couple of laps in a second prototype with the lower production car speed limit and managed to produce times of 8:30.873 and 8:26.096 minutes.
