2012 Jaguar XKR-S - 2011 Geneva Auto Show
Jaguar XKR-S is one mean kitty.
The 2012 Jaguar XKR-S produces 550 bhp and 502 lb.-ft. of torque, thanks to a higher output version of the company’s supercharged 5.0-liter V-8 engine. According to Jaguar, the XKR-S can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 4.2 seconds and reach a top speed of 186 mph.
The body-kit is a definite departure from Jaguar’s traditional blend of curves and flowing lines. An aggressive front fascia, large front air intake and flashy scoops at the front corners add more than a hint of DTM racing car to the elegant shape of the XK.
The air ducts on the hood and quad exhaust tips are nice touches. A revised suspension should provide a sportier blend of ride and handling. But the large rear wing seems way too “Fast and Furious” for a sophisticated Jaguar GT.
Pricing has not been divulged ahead of the car’s launch in Geneva on March 1. With the 2011 Jaguar XKR already starting at $97,000, the sticker for the XKR-S will easily begin well north of $100,000 when it arrives to take on cars like the Mercedes-Benz SL63 AMG, Aston Martin V-8 Vantage and Maserati GranTurismo coupe.
