McLaren had quite a presence at this past weekend’s Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance on Monterey, California, as the British automaker showed three new models for the first time in public.
Aside from the track-focused 12C Can-Am Edition Concept and the one-off X-1that we have already told you about, McLaren also premiered the new 12C Spider that is available for order now with first deliveries planned to start early next year.
Like the coupe, the 12C Spider's 616 bhp (625PS) output from its 3.8-litre V8 twin turbocharged engine is transmitted to the car’s rear driven wheels through a 7-Speed SSG dual-clutch transmission for a zero to 100km/h (62mph) sprint time of 3.1 seconds and a top speed of 209mph (329km/h).
The open top version of the 12C Coupe features a newly designed Retractable Hard Top (RHT) folding roof system that can be operated on the move, while there's also a windscreen positioned behind the passenger compartment, which may be electronically lowered and raised.
Thanks to the fact that the 12C's 165 lbs (75kg) ‘MonoCell’ required no additional strengthening for it to feature in the 12C Spider, the open top model weighs only 88 pounds (40 kg) more than its sibling.
