The current BMW 1-Series M Coupe has had its fair share of success on the market, so BMW’s plans to develop a successor for it shouldn’t surprise anyone. The new sports coupe will be based on the next generation 2-Series and will most likely be badged the M253i (known as theM135i Coupe until recently). A coupe version will be unveiled at the 2014 Detroit Auto Show, while a convertible version will arrive later in 2014.
The future M235i will be powered by a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine that delivers a total of 316 HP. The engine was recently announced in the M135i, but according toAutoweek, this engine has been certified for U.S. sales.
The M235i Convertible will be offered with a fabric roof and will have enough interior room for four people. The exterior will be distinguished by the usual BMW M Performance package which includes a front apron with large air intake vents and three-dimensional flaps, an impressive rear apron with dual exhaust pipes, and 18" M light alloy double-spoke wheel.
