Cadillac announced plans to build a production version of the Converj concept over a year ago, but we haven't heard much about the model (renamed the ELR) since then.
In the absence of official information, Car & Driver is filling the void by reporting the model will be equipped with several new features to help distinguish it from the Chevrolet Volt. Aside from the striking styling, the ELR will have a luxurious interior, additional sound deadening material and, possibly, active engine mounts.
To combat the weight gain, the ELR will reportedly eschew the Volt's 1.4-liter engine for a more powerful Ecotec MGE engine with a displacement of approximately 1.8-liters. The magazine says we can also expect a larger lithium-ion battery that has an energy capacity in excess of 17.0 kWh (at least 0.5 kWh more than the Volt).
Regardless of the final details, the ELR is expected to have a base price of approximately $55,000 which is roughly $15,000 more than the Chevrolet Volt.
